The Hope Window
When men first get the idea that they want to change their sexuality, they have a certain amount of hope. At that point they may start trying things they think will help or maybe they start looking for resources like a therapist or group. This is the beginning of what might be called “the hope window.” If all goes well, the man finds effective resources and begins to experience a lifting of his burdens and a shift in his sexuality. His hope grows, sustaining him through the entire process of growth.
But if the man can’t find any resources, finds ineffective resources, or tries methods on his own that don’t help, he eventually finds his hope beginning to fade. He may keep looking for help or trying different things, maybe even for years. He may pray harder or make bargains with God. But eventually, if he doesn’t find true help, his hope window begins to close. At some point, he may hear himself say something like, “I’m done!” That is often the point at which very destructive choices are made.
If you, or someone you know, seem to be reaching the end of the hope window, contact CGW as soon as possible.
